JAKARTA: Research In Motion is projecting to reach 42 percent of the smartphone market in Indonesia by the year’s end due to growing demand
AKARTA: Research In Motion is projecting to reach 42 percent of the smartphone market in Indonesia by the year’s end due to growing demand.
“We are projecting 42 percent market share by the end of this year because BlackBerry loves Indonesia and Indonesians clearly love their BBM and BlackBerry smartphones,” said Gregory Wade, RIM’s regional managing director for East Asia.
He said that 90 percent out of the 50 million BlackBerry users in Indonesia used BBM for their social lives.
With the implementation of the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Economic Development (MP3EI), RIM is confident that the government is improving its infrastructure and human resource capabilities.
Rohiles Singh, the country director of RIM in Indonesia, said BlackBerry would still be among the top three best-selling smartphones in Indonesia next year.
“The sales growth will be huge because people love BlackBerry,” Singh said.
RIM launched its new models in Jakarta on Tuesday: the BlackBerry Bold 9790 and BlackBerry Curve 9380. Both devices are powered by the new BlackBerry 7 OS which delivers a faster and richer user experience with improved browsing, voice-activated searches, and supports Augmented Reality and Near Field Communication.
