T

he South Jakarta Police staged a reenactment in the murder case of Raafi Aga Winasya Benjamin, who was stabbed to death on Nov. 5 at the Shy Rooftop restaurant in Kemang, South Jakarta.

The reenactment, which took place at the restaurant, was staged to obtain more details about circumstances surrounding Raafi’s death.

The main suspect in the case, Sher Mohammad Febri, six other suspects and another witness were told to revisit what they observed on the night of the stabbing.

Febri’s lawyer Endi Martono said that the reenactment was closed to the public.

South Jakarta Police chief Imam Sugianto said that the reenactment involved a scene where a taxi driver was involved.

Imam said that one taxi driver testified that he overheard his passengers talking about the stabbing when they left the Shy Rooftop.

“We are still probing the conversation,” Imam said.

He said that what the taxi driver heard could hold the key to identify Raafi’s assailant.

After the Shy Rooftop reenactment, investigators in the case moved on to Jl. T.B. Simatupang in Depok, West Java, where Febri’s home is located.

One police source said that none of Raafi’s friends from Pangudi Luhur senior high school was involved.

Imam, however, said that investigators have listed one key witness in the case.

“The witness is not a Pangudi Luhur student but he definitely knows who the assailant was,” Imam said.

Imam said the witness saw what happened and he kept the weapon used by Febri to stab Raafi.

Previously, Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Untung S. Radjab said that the key witness was one of the presidential elite guard members.

Despite of the police investigators’ claim that they have managed to name the suspect behind the stabbing, Pangudi Luhur defense team doubted if Febri was the real suspect in the case.

The team has also been criticized for the sluggishness of the police investigation.

Mahendradatta, one of the lawyers in Pangudi Luhur defense team, previously said that the public should be skeptical about statements made by the police regarding the case, as he suspected that there had been a cover-up to protect the real perpetrator in the homicide.

Mahendradatta said that such skepticism was warranted as the Shy Rooftop nightclub, where Raafi was murdered, was the playground for the city’s rich and famous.

Police stepped up security on Saturday at an annual music concert organized by Pangudi Luhur following death threats to Raafi’s friends who had testified in the investigation of his stabbing.

Organizers of the gig, known as PL Fair, said that they had written to the city police to ask for more security personnel for the program.
