ENPASAR: A giant golden colored gong symbolizing world peace was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Bali Collection complex in Nusa Dua.

Various national flags and a map of the world have been painted on the surface of the 5-meter-diameter gong, and it has been officially named as the World Peace Gong.

World Peace Committee president Djuyoto Suntani said the gong was the largest of a collection of peace gongs that had been installed in 43 countries. The gong is made from five precious metals as well as stone and other elements.

“Our mission is to build friendship all over the world. Bali is the perfect place to nurture friendship and peace. By installing the gong here we hope we can strengthen Bali’s image as an island of peace,” he added.
