ENPASAR: The Denpasar city administration organized on Saturday a seminar on traditional architecture. It aimed to define the core character and signature elements of Balinese traditional architecture. For years, the administration had made it mandatory for corporate and government buildings to incorporate elements of traditional architecture.

The seminar was attended by 126 students, experts and representatives from the customary villages. “It is part of our effort to strengthen the city’s vision to develop a cultural metropolis based on our own local wisdoms,” Zoning agency head Made Kusuma Diputra said.

Balinese architecture had undergone years of changes, he disclosed, therefore there was a need to redefine what Balinese traditional architecture really was.
