tate-owned construction company PT Adhi Karya says it has secured Rp 241.45 billion (US$26.32 million) in contracts from state mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) to build mining infrastructure facilities at Antam’s nickel mine in East Halmahera, North Maluku.

According to documents submitted to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Friday, Adhi Karya will build a solid jetty, a liquid cargo jetty and a liquid jetty within 300 calendar days.

“The construction of the jetties will be completed in October,” Adhi Karya corporate secretary Kurnadi Gularso told The Jakarta Post over the telephone on Friday.

The jetty developments are part of several Antam projects, through its subsidiary PT Feni Haltim, to develop a ferronickel smelter and supporting production facilities in East Halmahera with a total investment of US$1.6 billion, including US$600 million to develop a 275-megawatt power plant.

The ferronickel smelter is expected to start operation at the end of 2014 with a capacity of 27,000 tons a year.

Antam also intends to optimize its ferronickel factories in Pomalaa, South Sulawesi, where the company recently appointed PT Wijaya Karya to build a $13.5-million conveyor belt.

Bimo Budi Satriyo, Antam’s corporate secretary, said that the company was tendering several other projects in Halmahera and Pomalaa to develop its ferronickel factories.

Construction of the jetties will help Adhi Karya to meet its target of booking a new contract up to Rp 13.5 trillion this year.

“We obtained new contracts worth Rp 10.5 trillion in 2011. This year our carry-over contracts stand at Rp 10.5 trillion,” Kurnadi said.

Adhi Karya will focus on general construction for about 80 percent of its total new and carry-over contracts in 2012, with the remainder comprising developing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts.

According to Kurniadi, Adhi Karya was targeting Rp 9.4 trillion in revenue this year, up from an estimated Rp 7 trillion in 2011, and net profits of Rp 204 billion, up from an estimated Rp 183 billion.

Adhi Karya — which according to graft defendant Muhammad Nazaruddin allegedly bribed an official to win a contract to build a sports complex in Hambalang, West Java — is also reportedly planning to build a 100-story building in Jakarta.

Adhi Karya said that the tower would be the third-highest in the world and become an icon that would attract more tourists to the country. (rcf)
