our comments on the seizure by the Jakarta Corruption Court of Rp 74 billion in deposits, property and gold from Gayus H. Tambunan on Thursday after adding years to his sentence:
All (repeat all) corruption loot and assets of corruption convicts should be seized. Otherwise, people won’t hesitate to join in on the corruption bandwagon.
They would simply transfer to another place where people around won’t recognize them and start
enjoying the loot for the rest of their lives.
A strong Indonesian leader might come up with an idea of investigating any suspicious wealth where anyone found guilty will face jail, so there is no point at all to be corrupt in any way if not even a single cent of it could be made use of.
There really must be a way to end our corruption culture. Otherwise, we will go down the drain together.

That’s how it should be: the Jakarta Corruption Court seizes assets of corruption convicts. Otherwise, it can be used to protect them by bribing and paying for lawyers that will do the utmost for their corrupt clients.
