AKARTA: After months of intimidation from a hard-line group as well as opposition from residents living nearby, environmental NGO Greenpeace finally abandoned its headquarters in Kemang, South Jakarta, and moved to Tebet, South Jakarta, on Saturday.
“Yes, our new office is in Tebet; it is located near the Tebet train station,” Greenpeace spokesman Bustar Maisar said on Tuesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com, without elaborating on the reasons behind the move.
The City Construction Supervision and Regulation Agency (P2B) previously instructed Greenpeace to move out of the residential area.
The Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) last year protested the presence of Greenpeace, alleging it funded its operations through haram (un-Islamic) gambling operations in the Netherlands.
