AKARTA: One of Indonesia’s classical music conductors, Avip Priatna, says that he is optimistic that classical music will slowly gain more fans, especially among young people.

“We are starting to see a growing number of youths, most of them are students, who show an interest in either seeing our show or even studying classical music seriously. This is good for the growth of classical music in this country,” Avip told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.

However, he admitted that the number of classical music enthusiasts would not outnumber pop music fans since classical pieces were always considered hard to understand.

Avip, with the Batavia Madrigal Singers, was among the artists performing at the 50th anniversary of the Goethe Institute here in Jakarta.
