ustoms officers have arrested a Nigerian, a South African and two Indonesians for allegedly attempting to smuggle 1,660 grams of crystal methamphetamine through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
A South African woman identified only as MD, 22, was stopped by the officers for behaving suspiciously after arriving from Singapore on board a Singaporean Airlines flight on April 16, customs office chief Okto Irianto said on Tuesday.
'A scanning device detected 1,550 grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden in a false compartment in her luggage,' Okto said, adding that the drugs had a street value of Rp 2.2 billion.
In cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Customs Tactical Unit (CTU) went to the woman's destination address in Slipi and Kemanggisan in West Jakarta and arrested a Nigerian identified as UA, 35 and an Indonesian woman identified as LW, 32.
On April 18, customs officers foiled another smuggling attempt of 100 grams of crystal methamphetamine worth Rp 130 million hidden in four bars of soap sent via a courier company from Dubai, Uni Arab Emirate, following a tip-off from an intelligence analyst.
In cooperation with the airport police drug unit, CTU members conducted a controlled delivery to the destination address in Pamulang, South Tangerang, where the officers arrested another Indonesian man identified as HS, 32.
