J

ember regency in East Java is facing a severe fuel shortage after road renovations on a key transport route disrupted supply lines, triggering long queues at gas stations and forcing local authorities to shift civil servants to remote work and move schools online.

Long lines of motorcycles and cars stretching up to two kilometers have become a common sight at 41 gas stations across the regency in recent days, with residents reporting wait times of up to 10 hours just to fill their tanks.

“I queued from early morning and only got 10 liters by evening,” said Halimah, a resident of Sumberkalong Village in Kalisat District.

Gas stations operated by state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina have capped fuel purchases at Rp 30,000 for motorcycles and Rp 100,000 for cars, roughly equivalent to 3 to 10 liters.

Some residents have resorted to traveling to neighboring regions to obtain fuel.
