he Central Jakarta municipality is due to take part in celebrations to mark the city's 486th anniversary by organizing the Passer Baroe Festival on June 14-June 16, beritajakarta.com reported on Tuesday.
The head of public participation at the Central Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency, Salma Talalu, said the festival aimed to promote the Pasar Baru area as the city's legendary shopping strip.
"The festival will showcase cottage industry products from five subdistricts in Sawahbesar district, as well as featuring Betawi traditional music and dances," she said.
Salma said that at least 30 booths would line Jl. Antara and Pasar Baru market, with some selling Betawi delicacies.
The festival will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first day, and 1 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on the following two days.
"We have held this event since 1999 and this year we expect to increase our visitor numbers to 10,000," Salma said.
