group of unidentified men stormed the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) office in Gowa regency in South Sulawesi on Tuesday, a day after officers from the agency allegedly assaulted a Makassar Police officer, identified as Brig. Jufri M., following a traffic accident.

Three Satpol PP officers were injured in the attack.

Media reports said that witnesses heard gunshots during the attack, fueling speculation that the group comprised police officers seeking revenge for the assault on a fellow officer.

National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said on Wednesday that the South Sulawesi Police's preliminary investigation had not found any indication that the incidents were related.

"We are still investigating the possibility," he said in Jakarta.

He clarified that the gunshots were fired by a nearby police officer, Second Insp. Ahmad Budiarto, who witnessed the attack.

"He fired warning shots to stop the clash. The perpetrators were not armed," Agus said.

The assault on Jufri occurred on Monday after a car driven by Gowa Satpol PP chief Hasanuddin Ahmad hit the former's car. Jufri chased and confronted Hasanuddin after the accident. Several Satpol PP officers, who saw the two men arguing, allegedly attacked Jufri.
