64-year-old Singaporean, Ahmad Wahab bin Muhammad Tahir, faced the death penalty after he was indicted by prosecutors for violating Article 113 (2) of Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics.
Prosecutor Bambang Sunardi from the East Java Prosecutors' Office said on Monday afternoon that Ahmad, who lives in Block 407 Bedok North Ave 3# 23-179, Singapore 460407, was found in possession of more than 5 kilograms (kg) of narcotics.
Bambang also indicted Ahmad with Article 112 (2) of the Narcotics Law regulation the possession of, storing, managing and supplying Type I narcotics with a maximum punishment of 12 years imprisonment and a fine of between Rp 800 million (US$70,565) and Rp 8 billion.
Ahmad was arrested by the Customs and Exise Office at Juanda International Airport in April. He had 6.64 kg of shabu-shabu or methamphetamine in his dark brown suitcase and light brown backpack.
