At work: A man in traditional clothes and make-up makes wood carvings at the Asmat Museum booth.

Senayan City in South Jakarta is currently hosting The Museum Week 2013, presenting a selection of images, artifacts and replicas from 12 of the city's 47 museums. As always when exploring a museum, patience and attention will pay off when wandering through the exhibits.

At the Jakarta History Museum booth, for example, pick up a free comic book telling the story of Peter Erberveld, the Indo burgher condemned to die by the Dutch, and his true love, Sarina. There's also a free monograph from the Museum Basoeki Abdullah on the late, great artist featuring rare color photographs of his masterpieces.

Dioramas are part of every Indonesian museum, and at Senayan City you can see one liberated from the Proclamation Museum, featuring a fiery Bung Karno delivering a speech. At the National Monument Museum booth, look closely for a 1960s picture of a sitting craftsman painting one of a thousand background warriors for a diorama as a mini-model of Gadjah Mada swears not to eat the palapa fruit until the archipelago is unified.

Over at the Proclamation Museum booth, you can type out your own declaration of Indonesian independence on the tiny, telegram-style paper used by Sukarno, while at the Asmat Museum display, you can put on a grass skirt and pose with two men in traditional makeup and clothing.

Although it is not advertised, look for the wooden wayang golek puppet of Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo at the Wayang Museum booth. Jokowi can be found just behind the puppet of children's TV icon Si Unyil, in between Si Jampang, the Betawi Robin Hood and his Dutch archenemies.

Don't wait: The exhibit closes on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Miniature: The Lidah Api Kemerdekaan, or the Flame of Independence, that sits atop the National Monument is something familiar to every resident of the city, but what's unclear are the texture and detail of the flame as seen in this model.

Success isn’t at the top of the corporate ladder anymore

My generation watched our parents give everything to a company. We decided to give it to ourselves instead. But it's more complicated than that.

Resplendent: The Harry Darsono Museum booth features guides with sporty red berets amid the fashion designer's creations.

Gubernatorial 'golek': Jakarta's governor makes a surprise appearance, albeit in tiny wooden miniature as a wayang golek, at the Wayang Museum booth.
