TWG Tea: A good life with a cup of tea

A cup of tea may be the perfect antidote to a bad mood, and it also comes with the added bonus of health and beauty benefits.

'€œThe best cup is what you have at the moment,'€ said Yann Le Touche, store manager for TWG Tea Salon & Boutique in Jakarta, as he pointed to the beverage I was cradling.

'€œA good cup of tea, for me, is a cup of tea that will make me happy when I drink it; that can relax me because I'€™ll be thinking about something else; and also benefit my body.'€

With more than 450 teas on the menu, TWG Tea Salon & Boutique, located at Plaza Senayan shopping mall, definitely has something to suit everybody'€™s taste.

Indian Darjeeling, Himalayan black teas, Chinese yellow teas, Formosan blue teas, Japanese green teas, Bangladesh black teas and South African red teas are among the leaf blends from 36 tea-producing countries worldwide.

The health benefits of teas are plentiful. For those who desire tea that is good for their skin, body and excess fat, Le Touche recommends oolong tea.

'€œDrink it after lunch or dinner because it helps with digestion. It also works to reduce fat,'€ he says.

White teas contain the highest anti-oxidants, vitamin C and almost no theine (caffeine) as they only contain the buds of the tea plant. The outlet boasts 15 different blends of white teas.

Meanwhile, Earl Grey Gentleman and Earl Grey Chocolate are another two must tries.

The first choice contains rich and robust Ceylon, which is balanced with intense and fragrant TWG bergamot '€” giving this black tea blend a sparkling citrus aroma and an enduring and refreshing aftertaste. Ceylon black tea is stronger than any other black tea and TWG'€™s Earl Grey always conveys a punchy masculine personality.

As for Earl Grey Chocolate, it is a blissful blend of rich and aromatic black tea, accented with fresh notes of rare TWG bergamot and pure dark chocolate.

Children can also enjoy the establishment'€™s infused ice cream and sorbets, such as Vanilla Bourbon Tea Ice Cream or Silver Moon Tea Sorbets.

To add some fun, TWG Tea serves up bright and sparkling Happy Tea, Dancing Tea and Magic Moment Tea.

If you are feeling low, it is best to try Choco Mint Truffle Tea, as its sparkling notes of vanilla and mint blended with chocolate red tea results in a sweet and intoxicating brew that definitely lifts the spirit.

Tea can also boost your immune system.

'€œIn general, you can take Japanese teas, or tea made with a lot of concentration of the buds because 70 percent of anti-oxidants and vitamins are inside the buds,'€ Le Touche says.

He said such teas calm the drinker down and lower the body temperature.

'€œIt is really good for relaxation. I recommend drinking it after work.'€

For those who are not feeling well, he recommends Japanese gyokuro teas.

'€œAll around the world, teas are pan-fried. For Japanese tea, in order to dry the leaves, they steam it. The benefits of this tea are about 10 times more than any other,'€ he says.

For children and pregnant women, TWG Tea highly recommends red teas '€” also known as rooibos, originated from South Africa '€” as they are a good source of protein and good for blood circulation.
'€œThe [red teas] are naturally theine-free, fruity and strong in taste, so it is nice with ice and sugar,'€ says Le Touche.
