Thousands of workers under the auspices of the Jakarta Workers Forum will stage mass rallies at two locations in Jakarta on Tuesday.
They are striking in protest against cheap wages and are demanding the government set the new minimum wage for the province at Rp 3.7 million (US$336.7).
The forum's secretary general Mohammad Toha said the rallies would take place at the City Hall and Grand Mercure Hotel in Harmoni, Central Jakarta.
'A consolidation meeting of the Entrepreneurs Council is being held at the Mercure,' said Toha as quoted bykompas.com.
Toha said the rallies would start at 11 a.m. local time on Tuesday and were set to take place only at those two places. An estimated 2,000 workers would join the rallies.
'We will depart from Pulogadung industrial areas,' he said.
The Jakarta Workers Forum is an association of several labor elements, including the Indonesian Workers' Union Federation (FSPI), the Indonesian Metal Workers Union (FSPMI), and the All Factory Workers Forum (FBLP). (apt/ebf)
