obby Yassar Afan, a 35-year-old victim of the Jagorawi toll road fatal accident last Sunday, died early on Saturday, after undergoing intensive medical treatment and several fracture surgeries six days after the accident which involved Ahmad 'Dul' Abdul Qodir Jaelani, the youngest son of famous musician Ahmad Dhani.
Robby's body was brought to his parent's house in Cipinang, East Jakarta, before it was buried at the Pondok Kelapa public cemetery. He left an 11-year-old son Muhammad Alif Belfast and his wife Ade Natratilova whom he separated from two years ago.
Dhani came to mourn Robby and convey his condolence to the victim's parents and son. 'Dhani went to Robby's funeral and met us [Robby's family members],' Robby's sister, Vera, said as quoted by kompas.com.
She said that Dhani had apologized to Robby's family members on behalf of his son and promised to help pay for the education of Robby's only son.
'We don't blame Dhani or his son because we know Robby's death is in God's hands. We only want this case to be solved fairly and we don't want any more problems,' she said.
The musician said he would cover all costs of Robby's death and funeral. Previously he also promised to cover the education cost of all deceased victims' children to show his responsibility for the accident.
Robby was one of nine passengers suffering major injuries in the fatal accident. He suffered bone fractures in his chest, ribs, legs and pelvis. Six injured victims were still undergoing similar intensive treatment at the hospital and two others, including Dhani's son, were treated at the Pondok Indah General Hospital in South Jakarta.
The Jakarta Police have named Dul as a suspect in the case.
According to Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, Dul could be charged under the 2009 law on land transportation and traffic control, which carries a maximum sentence of six years imprisonment.
However, as Dul is underage, the police will also refer to Law No. 23/2002 on child protection, so that if he is found guilty, his punishment could be reduced by 50 percent.
Questioned by the Jakarta Police as a witness in the case, Dhani admitted that he gave his three sons luxury cars and hired drivers for them but did not know why Dul was driving by himself at the time of the accident.
Dhani said recently during an interview with a private TV station that he was not the only one responsible for allowing Dul to
drive, but the blame should also be laid on the state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga for not reporting to the police when underage drivers like his son entered the toll gate. (ian)
