S Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Industry Minister MS Hidayat announced on Tuesday announced three new clean-energy agreements worth nearly US$360 million between US and Indonesian companies.
'President [Barack] Obama has made it clear that the US is deeply committed to strengthening our commercial and economic ties in Asia Pacific. Part of increasing our engagement in the region will be achieved as US and Asian businesses work together on projects that benefit both of our economies and create jobs,' Pritzker said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
The agreements to develop environmentally friendly technology were signed on the heels of the APEC Summit in Bali.
'Joint projects like these represent a clear win-win for our bilateral commercial relationship with Indonesia,' said Pritzker, who led the US' APEC delegation.
'The projects also demonstrate the opportunities that exist in the world's fastest-growing region for US companies to not only sell their goods and services but also share their expertise and drive economic growth in high-priority areas, such as clean energy,' she added.
The purchase of revolutionary zinc-air battery technology from Fluidic Energy, which entered into a contract with Indosat worth $79 million, is one of the three clean-energy agreements.
Another agreement is between state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) I and a joint venture between SunEdison and the Sintesa Group to supply a 15 megawatt solar-powered generator to Ngurai Rai International Airport in Bali.
The last agreement is a binding cooperation between Ormat Technologies and PT Geo Pacific for majority stake in the $250 million Hu'u Dompu Geothermal power generation project. (ebf)
