Honda Motor opens second assembling plant in Indonesia

PT Honda Prospect Motor opened its second assembling plant in Mitra Karawang Industrial Estate, Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday.

The new facility, which is next to the automaker'€™s first local plant, has a total building area of 145,760 square meters with a production capacity of 120,000 vehicles per year, thereby raising the total production capacity in Indonesia to 200,000 units per year.

The offical opening was attended by Industry Minister MS Hidayat, the ministry'€™s director general for high technology industry, Budi Darmadi, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (HMC) president and CEO Takonobu Ito, HMC managing officer Hiroshi Kobayashi and other company board members.

'€œIndonesia is an important market for Honda with high potential for the automotive industry. This business expansion is the embodiment of our commitment to meet market demand by presenting the highest quality products at affordable prices for customer satisfaction around the world,'€ said Takonobu Ito as quoted by kompas.com.

Honda's second assembling plant will produce the company'€™s latest model Mobilio, which was exhibited at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Jakarta in September. This low-end MPV is assembled utilizing local contents of up to 86 percent.

The new plant will employ 2,000 to 5,000 employees. Honda locally employs about 7,500 people, including those involved in marketing and after sales. (krb)
