his weekend saw upset wins by underdogs GMIS and Jaguar and expected victories by TKCC and the Barbarians in the Apple Coal Jakarta Cricket Association (JCA) League 2013-2014.
In probably the biggest upset of the season, last-ranked GMIS defeated favorite Ceylon by 60 runs at Karawaci. Batting first, GMIS opener Naresh Gupta gave a brisk start and took GMIS to 61/1 in 12 overs before he was out for a well-made 50. GMIS posted a fighting 177 on board, with Anil Yadav scoring 34 runs. Praveen Uppal took a career-best six wickets. Ceylon lost the big wicket of Macha Dihan Silva early and GMIS had its tail up and went for the kill. Ceylon was bowled out for 117 runs. Sabry made 26 runs. Jalaj picked up three while Deepak Sarna took two wickets.
At Cibubur, Jaguar upset Senayan Tigers by three wickets in a closely fought game. Batting first, the Tigers made 139/7 in 35 overs, with Muhaddis scoring 27 runs. Amit Lalaji took three wickets, while Yashpal and Uttam picked up two wickets apiece. Jaguar reached the victory target in the penultimate over. Yashpal was the man of the match, top scoring with 36 runs. Melven took four wickets for the Tigers.
At the Gandhi ground, TKCC easily defeated the unpredictable UFCC by a whopping 125 runs. Sent into bat first, TKCC scored yet another 200-plus score, this time scoring 220 runs in 35 overs. Rakesh 51 and Vijay 40 were the leading scorers. Suhail snapped three wickets, while Rajeev and Imran took two wickets each. UFCC were bundled out for 95 runs in just 17 overs. Swaroop took three wickets and was ably supported by Jimmy and Hitesh, each taking two wickets.
In a one-sided match at Cibubur, the Barbarians successfully defended their score of 139 runs and posted an easy 49 runs victory over Emerio. Tim Gutsell scored 28 runs and Rayan Sharif took three wickets. Emerio were all out for a paltry 90 runs. Scott Masson took four wickets and Ben Burgess took two wickets.
WISCI leads Division I followed by Indorama and Senayan Lions. In Division II, TKCC are followed closely by the Jakarta Barbarians and Emerio.
