O

nline media monitoring firm Katapedia found that theIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle'€™s (PDI-P) presidential candidate Joko'€œJokowi'€ Widodo has been the most popular candidate on social media in theweek-long period prior to the July 9 presidential poll.

'€œOur research on Twitter users has found that in the last ten days, Jokowi and his running mate Jusuf Kalla are the most talked about ticket, with 770,491 tweets,'€ Katapedia director Deddy Rahman said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The Gerindra Party'€™s candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa were discussed 709,294 times.

Deddy said that the figures translated into 52.7 percent support for the Jokowi-Kalla ticket and 47.93 percent for the Prabowo-Hatta pair.

Katapedia later compared its findings to those of international social media research firm, Topsy.

Topsy'€™s research found that Jokowi garnered 59.6 percent of support on social media, while Prabowo got 40.4 percent. The findings were based on observations on Twitter over the last 30 days.

'€œSupport on social media reflects the situation in the real world,'€ Deddy said.

He said that Jokowi'€™s impressive performance on social media could augur well for his presidential bid, the way US President Barack Obama won the 2012 election after dominating social media.
