he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned on Monday Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Susilo Siswoutomo in its investigation into a bribery case surrounding the graft at the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas).
The KPK had earlier grilled Susilo's boss Jero Wacik on June 6.
Speaking after the questioning session, Susilo said the KPK had asked how the ministry set the gas prices.
'I told the investigators that to determine the gas price the ministry should first receive a proposal from SKKMigas. Then the proposal is analyzed by the ministry before the minister approves it,' Susilo said.
President director of PT Kaltim Parna Industri, Artha Meris Simbolon was named a suspect for allegedly bribing former SKKMigas chief Rudi Rubiandini, who was sentenced to seven years in prison for accepting bribes from a number of companies, including Kaltim Parna, to lobby the ministry to lower the price of gas allocated for Kaltim Parna.
The KPK recently launched a preliminary investigation into Jero's office after finding sufficient evidence of graft in a number of state projects worth billions of rupiah. The investigation is the fourth at the ministry.
The KPK has questioned a number of people in relation to its recent preliminary investigation including Jero's wife Triesnawati Wacik, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's political communication advisor Daniel Sparingga and the ministry's former secretary-general Waryono Karno.
