ndonesia'€™s largest taxi operator, the Blue Bird Group, launched on Wednesday its new line of taxis designed for people with disabilities, Blue Bird Lifecare Taxi, the first of its kind in the country.

Blue Bird is operating five custom-made Nissan Serena vehicles with power slide-up seats to ease access into the car.

'€œThe cars are specifically designed with custom-made seats. We will station the taxis at hospitals and hotels where other Blue Bird taxis are stationed,'€ Blue Bird Group president director Purnomo Prawiro said during the vehicles'€™ launch at City Hall, adding that the service would attract a regular fare.

The flagfall is set at Rp 7,000 (60 US cents), while the fare per kilometer is Rp 3,600 and the fare for delays is Rp 42,000 per hour.

Purnomo said that Blue Bird Lifecare Taxi was part of the company'€™s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

Deputy Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama appreciated the company'€™s new line, saying that the city would fully support the program.

'€œIt is very helpful for disabled people and I thank the Jakarta Transportation Agency for setting the fare at the regular fare,'€ he said.

The deputy governor added that the city administration would support companies with beneficial CSR programs.

'€œJakarta does not have enough taxis but the quota has been limited. But I think we should support reliable taxi operators by adding to their quotas and revoking the quota of operators with poor services,'€ he said. (nfo)
