Bali named best island in Asia

B

ali has been named the '€œBest Island in Asia'€ by Travel + Leisure magazine, making it the only island in Asia to make the magazine'€™s Top 10 Islands in the World list for 2014.

Deputy Bali Governor I Ketut Sudikerta said that the magazine'€™s award was a sign of the world'€™s trust in the commitment of the Bali administration and all tourism sector workers to developing tourism in the island.

'€œWe have to build better tourist attractions, improve the ones that we have already have, preserve the natural beauty of Bali and improve the island'€™s safety,'€ Ketut said in Denpasar on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Travel + Leisure magazine ranked Bali fifth in their list of the '€œ10 Best Islands in the World'€.

The magazine gave Bali a score of 86.82, placing it behind the Greek island of Santorini and the three islands of Maui, Kauai and Hawaii in the United States.

The score was also determined by the magazine'€™s readers through a survey that was conducted from December 2013 to March 2014, assessing the quality of an island'€™s natural views, beaches, tourist attractions, food and restaurants as well as the friendliness of the people.

The magazine'€™s award will be presented to a representative of the Indonesian Consulate-General in New York on Wednesday.

Bali topped the magazine'€™s list of Asia'€™s best islands three times in a row in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

It then placed second in 2012 and third in 2013.

Meanwhile, head of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association'€™s (GIPI) Bali chapter Ngurah Wijaya said that the award should serve as a means for the government, the public and tourism industry workers to uphold Balinese culture. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
