W. Java to upgrade tourist destinations

T

he West Java provincial administration intends to upgrade the region'€™s tourist destinations, such as by improving access, in a bid to draw more foreign visitors.

West Java chapter Indonesian Restaurants and Hotels Association head Herman Muchtar revealed that funds of Rp 30 billion (US$2.477 million) to develop three tourist destinations, namely Pangandaran beach, Sumedang parasailing area and Ciletuh beach near Sukabumi, had not yet been disbursed to local administrations, despite the fact that the 2014 state budget allocated the money for expanding tourism in West Java.

'€œThe regional administrations should understand the wishes of the provincial administration as well as businesspeople,'€ Herman said.

He explained that businesspeople in the hospitality industry expected the government to show willingness to promote tourism, including by encouraging artistic and cultural activities, which could draw more foreign visitors. '€œIf not, what will they see if they come here, apart from the natural panorama?'€ asked Herman, who owns several hotels in Bandung.

West Java Vice Governor Deddy Mizwar has instructed the West Java Tourism Office to improve a number of tourist destinations in the province. He expects 12 tourist destinations to be upgraded over four years. Three destinations are to be improved annually, through infrastructure development as well as community capacity building.
