popular Japanese anime character, Doraemon, a robot cat who travels back in time from the 22nd century and befriends pre-teen boy Nobita Nobi, will come to Indonesia for 100 days to share its secret gadgets with fans.
Animation International Ltd., a Hong Kong-based company that owns the Doraemon license, will bring the full-fledged Doraemon experience through the Doraemon 100 Secret Gadgets Expo, set to be held in the Ancol Beach City Mall in North Jakarta from Nov. 28 to March 8.
'We were aware of how big Doraemon is in Indonesia and how important Indonesians fans are [...] that is why we decided to bring the expo to Jakarta. This expo will provide Indonesian Doraemon fans with a new experience. We hope that the fans can have a first-hand experience that is different to what they've been watching on TV,' Animation International Ltd. Indonesia representative office head Lynard B. Longcop told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The expo will feature 100 Doraemon statues, secret gadgets and various real-life sets from the anime series, including the bedrooms of its characters, including those of Nobita and Suneo. Various kinds of merchandise will also be available for sale.
To add to the experience, fans will also be provided with the history of Doraemon and various answers to mysteries from the series.
'Doraemon's initial color was yellow and it actually had ears. But it later turned to blue and does not have ears. Why was that? Fans will get the answer in the expo. It will also provide answers to such questions as whether or not Nobita ends up marrying [friend or crush] Shizuka and the moments surrounding the events,' said Animation International Ltd. business development manager-licensing Helena Irma.
Longcop pointed out that early-bird tickets were on sale starting Tuesday, with ticket prices set at
Rp 90,000 for adults and Rp 55,000 for children aged 5 to 12 years old.
'We give a 20 percent discount for early-bird tickets, which are distributed in Alfamart, Alfamidi and Lawson. They can also be purchased online via myticketindonesia.com,' he added.
The Doraemon 100 Secret Gadgets Expo has toured various Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and China, with hundreds of thousands visitors attended each expo.
'The expo, which was held in three cities in Taiwan, managed to attract 1.5 million visitors. The Kuala Lumpur expo was visited by 300,000 people last year. Population-wise, the Jakarta expo should be able to surpass the number so we expect more than 300,000 people will come to Ancol,' he said, adding: 'let's share more happiness and treasured memories with Doraemon here in Indonesia.'
Further information on the expo is available on Twitter @doraemon100expo, Facebook fan page Doraemon Indonesia and website doraemonexpo.com.
The Doraemon manga series ' written and illustrated by manga writing team Fujiko Fujio ' was first published in December 1969 in six different magazines. A total of 1,344 stories were created in the original series, extending to 45 volumes.
