he Salatiga Police have detained Titik Kirnaningsih, the wife of Salatiga Mayor Yulianto, who had been declared guilty by the Semarang Corruption Court in 2012 for graft surrounding the city's South Ring Road project in 2008.

The police previously had suspended their plan to detain Titi because she was being hospitalized in Salatiga, Central Java.

Central Java attorney's office official, Eko Suwarni, said that Titi, accompanied by her lawyers, went to Salatiga city penitentiary on her volition.

'Titi's lawyers told me that she [Titi] would hand herself over after her condition improved,' he said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The Semarang Corruption Court sentenced Titik to five years behind bars for causing state losses of Rp 12.23 billion (US$1 million) from the construction of 6.5 kilometers of the Salatiga southern ring road. Her company, PT Kuntjup, was found guilty of marking up the cost of the poorly constructed road.

The court also ordered Titik to pay Rp 300 million in fines and return Rp 2.5 billion to the state. Titik will have to stay two more years in prison if she fails to pay up. (alz/nfo)(++++)
