With its spacious cabin, 14-position smart-seats, multifunction center seat and large luggage compartment, the New Nissan Serena is a promising MPV for your in-motion home.

Specifically designed and built for Indonesian families, the newest version of the Serena multipurpose vehicle (MPV) is equipped with a pile of exterior and interior enhancements.

'€œThe New Nissan Serena is designed for families. We want it to be the second home for those families,'€ Budi Nur Mukmin, general manager of marketing strategy and communications division for Nissan Motor Indonesia, said on the sidelines of the car'€™s launch ceremony in Jakarta recently.

'€œSo, we'€™ve equipped the car with various cabin features that will accommodate the needs of Indonesian families. We also gave the New Serena a new look,'€ he added.

The New Nissan Serena is available in three variants: the X, the Highway Star (HWS) and the Autech.

The seven-seater is styled with a new front bumper, grill, hood design, alloy wheels, LED headlamps with day-time running lights, fog lamp finishers (on the HWS and Autech), LED rear lamps and aero side guards (on the HWS and Autech).

In the interior, the car has an added audio steering switch, color panel instruments and Nissan Serena'€™s signature seat cloth color update.

It also offers laudable visibility, a 14 smart-seat model and a SMART (seat, multi-table with cup holder, armrest, tissue box) multifunction center seat, comfortable accommodations with spacious cabin space, various baggage compartments, a 360-degree view feature, airbags, cruise control, an eco-drive feature, a roof monitor, as well as a panoramic roof for your riding pleasure.

The 14 smart-seat model and multifunction center seat give you extra comforts on the road '€” be it for an out-of-town road trip or in-town daily mobility. The 14 smart-seat model, for example, allows you to set your seat in 14 ways, while the SMART center makes it possible to have fun in the cabin.

'€œWith the SMART multifunction console, which is detachable, you'€™ll make more room for your kids to do some activities in the cabin,'€ said Budi.

In the engine division, Budi said the New Serena has similar features as provided in the previous version.

With the MR20 2.0-liter engine, the New Serena provides a maximum of 147 PS/5600 rpm in power and a maximum of 206 Nm/4400 rpm in torque.

In dimensions, the HWS and Autech are slightly bigger with 4,770mm by 1,735mm as compared to the X variant, which is 4,685mm by 1,695 mm.

On the entertainment side, the New Serena is equipped with a DVD 2DIN wide 6-inch touchscreen display with a Bluetooth audio headset unit and motorized 10-inch roof mounted LCD screen rear entertainment system.

To sum up, the X variant, which is priced at Rp 364 million (US$28,000) on-the-road in Jakarta, offers automatic headlamps, power sliding left door (with one-touch opener and auto closer), mud guards and a rear entertainment system with a motorized 10-inch roof-mounted LCD screen.

The Rp 409 million HWS offers a roof spoiler and side guard molding, power sliding doors on the left and right (with one-touch opener and auto closer), AC rear cooler with roof vents and an audio headset unit.

Meanwhile, with a Rp 441 million price tag, Autotech offers clear high mounted stop lamps, a new front grill and new front bumper, cruise control and a panoramic glass roof.

The New Serena utilizes independent MacPherson struts with stabilizers for front suspension and Torsion beams with stabilizers for rear suspension.

In terms of visibility, especially for female drivers, Budi said that the New Serena offers a valuable 360-degree view feature.

'€œThe unique design of the car'€™s pillar A, which provides big windows, allow female drivers to get a 360-degree view. It gives you a better and safer riding experience,'€ said Budi, adding that the New Serena is an easy-to-handle ride.

For colors, the New Serena is available in light steel blue, red, floral white, silver metallic, grey metallic and black. The first generation of Serena was introduced in Indonesia in 1996, followed by its second generation model in 2004. In 2013, the latest Serena was introduced and, to date, the car has been sold more than 25,000 units nationwide.
