he Kemala Bhayangkari Foundation, an organization founded by the wives of Jakarta Police officers, has marked its 35th anniversary early by holding a parenting seminar followed by story telling by teachers and a performance by students.
'Parenting starts 80 percent at home and 20 percent at school,' said Yuni Unggung Cahyono, the head of the foundation's Polda Metro Jaya branch. Yuni is the wife of Insp. Gen. Unggung Cahyono, the Jakarta Police chief.
Kemala Bhayangkari was founded on May 5, 1980 under Bhayangkari, an organization of Indonesian police officers' wives. It mainly focuses on education, besides other social activities such as humanitarian aid.
To date, Kemala Bhayangkari runs an early childhood program, 25 kindergartens, one elementary school, one junior high school and one Koran reading school with 2,231 students and 154 teachers in Jakarta.
