Seven people were killed and three others declared others missing at Cermin Beach in Serdang Bedagai regency, North Sumatra, on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the victims were swimming at the beach. Strong waves swept away the swimmers, North Sumatra Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Helfi Assegaf said on Sunday night.

The seven fatalities have been identified as Puji Astria, 22, Jihan Chairunisa, 11, Anggun, 11, Nazwa, 12, Muhammad Suriadi, Dewi Aisyah Sembiring and Sri Nani Utami.

The seven bodies were found by local residents, Helfi said. Three others had not been found as of Sunday night.

Two swimmers were rescued, namely Muhammad Bukhori Waskito, 10, and Sri, 50.
