AKARTA: Indonesian rider M. Fadli Immanudin was reported to be in stable condition following a serious accident at the end of the second series of the Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC) in Bogor, a couple of weeks ago.
'I heard he had been released from the ICU. He suffered a serious injury to his leg, but thanks to quick action from the medical team he was saved,' Satar Almasyah, a friend of Fadli's, told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
The accident took place on June 7 during the second round of this season's ARRC. Fadli, of the Astra Honda Racing Team (ART), was waving to the crowd in celebration of his victory in the 600cc race when he was hit by Jakkrit Sawangswat from behind. The two riders fell off their bikes. Fadli was seen clutching his knee. He suffered a fracture in his leg so severe that he had at one time faced the possibility of amputation.
'Fortunately, he escaped amputation, thanks to the decisive action by the medics at Pertamedika Sentul City Hospital, helped by teleradiology technology,' a press release said.
Teleradiology improves patient care by allowing radiologists to provide services without actually having to be at the same location as the patient.
Fadli is reportedly recuperating at a hospital in Jakarta while Sawangswat has been flown to Thailand.
According to Satar, manager of ART rival MV Agusta, Fadli has been ruled out of the remaining four series, leaving teammate Dimas Eky Pratama, who finished second in Bogor, as the team's lone rider.
