The government has sent graft convict Gayus Halomoan Tambunan to a special prison cell designed for heavyweight drug dealers in Gunung Sindur, Bogor, West Java, after the former low-ranking tax officer, now serving time for corruption and money laundering, sparked public anger when he ate lunch outside prison without permission.

Gayus was transferred from Class 1 A Sukamiskin penitentiary in Bandung to Gunung Sindur penitentiary on Tuesday night.

"Gayus is in Block A Room 1, which is for heavyweight drug dealers. It'€™s never been used so Gayus is the first [to enjoy it]," said Gunung Sindur prison warden Edi Sigit Budiman, as quoted by Antara new agency on Wednesday.

The cell block in Gunung Sindur, Edi continued, is an exceptional place for isolating Gayus, with maximum security and scrutiny. '€œThis block is specialized for heavyweight prisoners who are in isolation or facing sanctions.'€

Edi explained the isolated cell was built in 2010 and was ready for use in 2013. In the new cell, Gayus will have very limited visits from family as part of his punishment for having an unauthorized day out.

"Gunung Sindur prison has a capacity of 1,308 prisoners, separated into four general blocks and one isolation block, where Gayus now stays. The prison currently accommodates 465 convicts," Edi added. (ads/bbn)(++++)
