tate cement maker PT Semen Indonesia (SI) plans to convert its old factories in Gresik, East Java, into a museum and an education park.

The new museum and education park, on the 3.2 hectare site formerly used as an SI plant, will function as classrooms for Semen Indonesia International University, formerly known as the Semen Indonesia School of Management.

“Currently, some premises have been transformed into university classrooms. The bigger project will kick off next year with 24 new classrooms to be built in the first stage,” the university’s rector, Herman Sasongko, said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.

In addition to the conversion of the old factory on Jl. Veteran, the company also plans to convert its old factory on Jl. Siti Fatimah Binti Maimun, sitting on a 49 ha plot of land, into another facility for the university.

Herman said the construction work would take five years.

Currently, the university has three faculties with 10 programs serving 900 students.

“We are optimistic that the university will compete with other universities to produce highly skilled graduate, as we will teach both theory and applied sciences to our students, including through in-house training at Semen Indonesia and at its partner firms,” Herman said. (dmr)
