ndonesian women's singles hopeful Lindaweni Fanetri was sent packing early from the BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2016 after bowing to Dane Line Kjærsfeldt in a rubber game 12-21, 21-18, 19-21 at the Bung Karno indoor stadium on Tuesday.
Lindaweni admitted that she found it difficult to keep pace with the 2015 European Games gold medalist.
“I tried to catch up but she kept throwing attacking shots,” Lindaweni said after the match.
Refusing to be disheartened by her loss, Lindaweni, who managed to reach the quarterfinal round of the Indonesia Open last year, said that she hoped for a better result in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Linda has secured her slot to compete in the Olympics.
“The opponents that I faced here are the same ones that’ll compete in the Olympics,” Lindaweni said, adding she wished to bring home a medal from the Olympics.
She added that her coaches planned to intensify her training after the championship.
Separately, Dane shuttler Kjærsfeldt expressed her joy after winning the match.
“It was a very tough game. It’s in Indonesia and Lindaweni is from Indonesia so it was very tough. I’m very glad that I won today,” Kjærsfeldt said after the match.
Kjærsfeldt, who played mixed doubles on Monday with Kim Astrup, performed well on her own.
The 22-year-old said that the previous matches got her into a groove, especially because the court was quite windy. That might be a reason that she won the game, she said. (dmr)
