witness in the high-profile Tangerang rape and murder case testified on Thursday that a 16-year-old boy suspected of taking part in the incident was innocent and was not even present when the incident occurred.
Alfan Sari, a lawyer representing the 16-year-old boy, said the police should instead search for a person named “Dim”, who he said was one of the actual perpetrators of the sadistic crime against the 24-year-old woman with the initials EP.
“The police should investigate Dim,” Alfan said at the Tangerang District Court on Thursday.
RAI, 24, another suspect, who acted as a witness at the hearing, told the judges that the 16-year-old boy was not at the location when Dim, H and himself had killed EP.
During the court hearing, RAI went back on the information he had earlier given to the police. “I vow, everything I said in the case dossier is false. It was not [the 16-year-old boy], who was with us [during the incident],” RAI said.
“I have committed a sin by murdering a woman. I don’t want to commit another sin by lying in this court,” RAI added.
Police arrested the boy because he was discovered in possession of a cellular phone owned by EP after the incident.
However, during the Wednesday court hearing, the defense claimed that the suspect had only bought the phone for Rp 10,000 (75 US cents) from Dim.
Alfan expressed his disappointment that the three police officers who had acted as witnesses during the hearing said that they did not know about Dim.
The sadistic murder allegedly occurred after RAI, who was the victim’s boyfriend, came to the boarding house for factory workers where EP lived at 11:30 p.m. on May 17. RAI, who had only known EP for one month, reportedly asked EP to have sex, but she declined his request. Irked, RAI went out the room and met two of his friends.
The three friends allegedly forced their way into the room and committed the rape and murder.
The victim’s body was discovered by several of her friends at PT Polyta Global Mandiri on Friday. They noticed that EP’s room was locked from the outside and decided to break into the room. (bbn)
