E

leven detainees in the custody of the North Sumatra Police's narcotic division escaped their cell by sawing off the padlock on the cell door when police guards were sleeping during the early hours of Monday morning. 

A search team from the narcotics directorate was formed to pursue the detainees, North Sumatra Police spokesman Adj. Sr.Cmr. Rina Ginting said on Tuesday.

The sleeping personnel, second sub-inspector SS and Brig. H, were also questioned by the police's Internal Affairs Division.

No further details on how the detainees managed to saw off the padlock of the cell have been released.

The eleven detainees charged for drug offenses are Sarifuddin, 43, Teddy Sugara, 39,  Suhermanto aka Suhir, 25, Abdullah alias Adul, 37, Yudhi Kurniawan alias Yudi, 26, Busra, 38, Amad, 31, Herijal aka Rijal, 24, Richo Triyoga Tama aka Riko, 32,  Datuk Ega Juanda, 28, and Suliyadi Adi, 33. (rin)
