akarta’s traffic police ticketed 274 motorists for using dedicated Transjakarta bus lanes on Monday as the city administration and police began imposing fines to help clear the lanes of private vehicles.
The traffic police’s law enforcement subdivision head, Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, said most of the so-called “blue tickets” were issued outside Transjakarta Corridor I.
Budiyanto was quoted by Warta Kota as saying that the trespassers, mostly motorcyclists, were handed the maximum fine of Rp 500,000 ( US$37.5 ).
The Jakarta administration has made many attempts to clear the lanes, ranging from installing high separators and gates to imposing hefty fines.
Past efforts, however, have not been comprehensive or sustainable, with private motorists eventually returning to the dedicated bus lanes with or without police officers present. (dmr)
