he National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has completed a case dossier on members of the Fajar Nusantara Movement (Gafatar), who have been accused of blasphemy and treason.
Bareskrim will will soon send the dossier to the Attorney General's Office (AGO).
The submission will be followed up with a new investigation, aiming to name more suspects aside from the three former Gafatar leaders who are currently being detained, the head of Bareskrim’s general crimes division, Brig. Gen. Agus Adrianto, said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Tuesday.
He said he expected that prosecutors would soon review the dossier and declare it complete so that the case involving the now-defunct group's members could be taken to court.
On May 27, the police arrested two former Gafatar members, Mahful Muis Tumanurung and Andri Cahya, as well as the group's spiritual leader and the founder of Al Qidayah al-Islamiyah, Ahmad Musadeq.
Gafatar found itself at the center of controversy earlier this year because of its religious practices, which allegedly combined teachings of Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
It led to the issuance of a joint decree from the AGO, the Home Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry in March that officially banned the group from spreading its doctrine.
Human rights activists have criticized law enforcers for criminalizing people for their beliefs. (afr/bbn)
