ank Indonesia (BI) has denied any massive cyberattacks launched by hackers reported earlier by the media, assuring that the central bank’s system remains intact and secure.
“We are running normally. We haven’t had to resort to using our back-up facility,” BI deputy governor Ronald Waas was quoted as saying Antara news agency on Wednesday.
Ronald added that the bank continued to update and upgrade its information technology security to anticipate any types of hacking.
Reuters reported on Monday that the central banks of Indonesia and South Korea had been hit by cyberattacks on their public websites after activist hacking group Anonymous pledged last month to target banks across the world.
Central banks have been on high alert in the wake of revelations that hackers issued fraudulent money transfers to steal $81 million from the Bangladesh central bank in February. (dmr)
