T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said its investigation into alleged funds from developers of reclamation projects for Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok), the main supporter of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, is still in its early stage.

“It is being studied,” said KPK commissioner Saut Situmorang as reported by kompas.com on Wednesday.

Previously, lawmaker from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Junimart Girsang, asked the KPK in a House of Representatives hearing if the anticorruption body had received information about the Rp 30 million (US$2.26 million) allegedly disbursed by developers for Teman Ahok.

The statement was made during a hearing between the KPK and House’s Commission III overseeing legal and human rights affairs on June 15.

“I got info about Rp 30 billion in reclamation funds for Teman Ahok,” Junimart said.

When asked whether the KPK would ask the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) to check the alleged flow of the funds, Saut said the KPK did not need to do so yet.

“It will be done if the status [of the investigation] is upgraded,” Saut added. (bbn)
