ommercial banks will run limited operations during the long Idul Fitri holiday this week to allow customers to conduct transactions.

On Monday and Tuesday they open for several hours but will close completely on Wednesday in compliance with Bank Indonesia’s (BI) clearing system schedule.

Some banks will have a limited opening Thursday and Friday. All will resume full operations on July 11, when offices are expected to return to their daily routine.

The banks will ensure all of their ATMs will be fully working throughout the long holiday.

State-owned Bank Mandiri, the country’s largest bank by assets, will operate 200 branches across the country on a shift schedule to serve incoming big payments, including those related to fuel supply from state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina.

“Limited operations include cash deposits and withdrawals, as well as transfers to and from Mandiri’s accounts. Customers should inform a day earlier if they want to withdraw cash above Rp 20 million [US$1,500],” vice president Sulaiman A. Arianto said in a press statement.

Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), another state-owned lender, has prepared 15 mobile units in places like Medan in North Sumatra; Merak Port in Banten; along toll roads in West Java and East Java; as well as Jayapura, Papua.

Bank Central Asia (BCA), the country’s biggest private lender, will operate a number of branches with limited operations on Monday. It is scheduled to close all operations from July 5 to 8, while its weekend banking services will be available on July 9 and 10.
