State-run oil and gas company Pertamina has stocked up on supplies to meet rising fuel demands during the Idul Fitri holidays.

It has set up a special team that will ensure adequate stocks of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the period of 15 days before and after Idul Fitri. The company usually keeps supply for up to 17 days of demand, Pertamina vice president of corporate communication Wianda Pusponegoro said.

“To support massive Idul Fitri holiday travellers, we ensure that it can reach up to 20 days ahead for each product," she said on the phone, She particularly named the non-subsidised high grade gasoline products Pertamax, Pertalite and the newly Dexlite.

Pertamina is anticipating highest demand for fuel in Central Java, through which motorists from Jakarta and West Java drive on their way to cities and villages in both East Java and Central Java. It has prepared  supply point terminals operating around the clock along the West Java-Central Java exodus route, such as in Balongan, West Java, and Tegal, Central Java.

Pertamina has opened a number of “kiosks” or temporary outlets for Pertamax, the highest grade fuel, along the northern coast of Java, such as in Cilamaya, Subang and Cirebon in West Java. On the southern route, the Pertamax kiosks are opened  in Garut, Tasikmalaya and Ciamis, West Java.

West Sumatra and Bengkulu are among provinces in Sumatra closely watched by Pertamina as they traditionally see some of the high number of revellers during the Idul Fitri holiday. (tas)
