T Jasa Marga expects the returning traffic of Idul Fitri vacationers to peak on Sunday with more than 117,000 vehicles predicted to pass the Cikarang Utama toll gate.
The state-owned toll-road operator had prepared several measures to anticipate the influx of vehicles heading back to Jakarta, Jasa Marga AVP of corporate communications Dwimawan Heru Santoso said on Saturday.
He added there would be two additional toll booths to lift the number of booths to 23 in a bid to ease traffic.
Furthermore, Jasa Marga would divert traffic exiting the West Cikarang 2 toll gate to reenter at the West Cikarang 4 toll gate, which had three toll booths to head back to Jakarta. So there would be 26 toll booths in total to accommodate Jakarta-bound vehicles.
Travelers are strongly urged to use electronic cards for payment to accelerate the processing of queues waiting at the toll gates.
A contraflow scheme would also be implemented to prevent congestion around rest areas, Heru said. Jasa Marga urged travelers to bring food and sufficient fuel for the return journey, as rest areas would be opened and closed to help ease the flow of traffic. (rin)
