he government has yet to issue a decree to approve the new Golkar Party leadership, elected during the party national congress in May, as officials are still reviewing the Golkar Party executive board member list.
"The party submitted its leadership list a few days before the holiday," said Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
During the congress, the party elected former House of Representatives speaker Setya Novanto as the party chairman.
The list was submitted to the ministry on June 28 and consists of 279 politicians, compared to the previous leadership that consisted of 147 politicians.
Golkar Party’s new leadership list is suggestive of a wish to accommodate the two factions that split during the leadership of Aburizal Bakrie because of differences of opinion over candidates in the latest presidential election.
One faction was chaired by Aburizal, while another faction was chaired by Agung Laksono. Both Aburizal and Agung were included in the new leadership list. (erk/bbn)
