tate-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II announced on Monday that the backflow of homebound travelers during the Idul Fitri festive period passing through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, reached its peak on Saturday and Sunday.

About 182,700 passengers—most of whom were celebrating Idul Fitri in their hometowns—arrived at the airport on Sunday as many of them had to work on Monday, said Langlang Wigiharso, an operator official in charge of the Idul Fitri exodus on Monday.

Meanwhile, around 174,000 people landed at the airport on Saturday, he added.

“Employees, including government employees, had to go back to work on Monday, so many of them returned to the city on Sunday,” Langlang said.

The authority said previously, about 2.89 million people departed from the airport before Idul Fitri.

“The number was a 6 percent increase from about 2.72 million passengers recorded at the airport during the same period last year,” Langlang told The Jakarta Post. (vny/bbn)
