A

member of the Indonesian Military (TNI) allegedly threatened on Tuesday to blow up an airplane he boarded at Batam's Hang Nadim Airport after his flight was delayed for more than two hours.

Airport official Suwarso told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that the passenger, identified as chief Sgt. Agam Purba, was a passenger on a Lion Air flight heading to Iskandar Muda Airport in Banda Aceh. The JT 810 flight should have taken off at 11:05 a.m., but it was delayed until 2 p.m. Shortly before taking off, Agam allegedly made the bomb threat, the official said.

“A passenger claiming to be a member of the Indonesian Army said he was carrying a bomb and threatened to set it off on the airplane. But after undergoing interrogation, his claim turned out to be false,” he said. The man is said to have claimed that he was only joking.

Air Force military police immediately apprehended Agam, a TNI member posted at Iskandar Muda Military Command in Banda Aceh.

The TNI has been involved in securing airports following a deadly attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, last month. (ary)
