Following the public uproar caused by the finding of 'fake vaccine', President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Health Minister Nila Farid Moeloek directly observed he revaccination of dozens of children, who were indicated of receiving fake vaccine.

A re-vaccination program for children affected by the ongoing fake vaccination scam was carried out at four healthcare centers on Monday in East Jakarta, -- Ciracas subdistrict health center, Ciracas Public Hospital and Harapan Bunda Hospital and a healthcare facility of Sayang Bunda Hospital in Bekasi, West Java.

The re-vaccination of the children will be held in stages based on the result of the National Police’s criminal investigation corps (Bareskrim) investigation.

Of the 197 children who appear to have been administered fake vaccines at a midwifery clinic in Ciracas, 26 have come to the Ciracas subdistrict health center to take part in the re-vaccination program. As many as 20 children were re-vaccinated on Monday at the Harapan Bunda Hospital and 20 children at the Sayang Bunda Hospital in Bekasi.

Previously, a fake vaccine taskforce led by the director general for pharmaceutical and health equipment, Maura Linda Sitanggang, conducted data validation on babies and toddlers for the re-vaccination program.

The taskforce contacted parents to encourage them to attend one of the various health facilities for re-vaccination.

"We will consider the age of the children and offer immunization according to the type of fake vaccine received by each individual child,” Nina said on Monday as stated in an official statement provided by the Health Ministry.

She urged those parents who had been contacted by the taskforce to bring their children to health facilities for re-vaccination.

There are two type of vaccine used in the re-vaccination initiative; DPT (Diptheria Tetanus Pertussis) and HiB (Haemophilus Influenza type B), known as pentavalent vaccines. The ministry has also provided provisions of the oral polio vaccine (OPV) to administer to the children immune to combat polio illness. (bbn)
