he previously cancelled trilateral ministerial meeting on the security of regional waters of Indonesia, Philippine and Malaysia will take place next week in Bali, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu confirmed on Thursday.
Previously scheduled for July 21, the meeting will take place from Aug. 1 to 3, Ryamizard said.
The meeting is a follow-up to the joint declaration on maritime security signed by the three countries on May 5. The meeting will center on the mechanism for joint sea patrols, as well as discussion efforts to prevent piracy and terrorism in the regional waters.
"We have yet to conclude the matters, therefore we will carry out further discussion] to achieve concrete results," Ryamizard told journalists on Thursday.
The talks follow the abduction of three Indonesian sailors in Malaysian Sabah waters in early July, less than a month after the kidnapping of seven Indonesian ship crew members by Philippine militant groups in southern Philippines waters. The kidnapped sailors are still being held hostage by the militant groups. (rin)
