"Sibolga Port plays an important role for the connectivity of people living in North Sumatra and Aceh," Budi said in a statement on Sunday.
Pelindo I said earlier it had prepared budgetary allocations for the expansion of the port. The construction activities would begin in 2017, it further said.
Budi said it was expected the Sibolga Port’s operator could improve services at its passenger terminal.
"The terminal is inappropriate for passengers as it is located too close to a fish market," he said. (rez/ebf)
