resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo held a bilateral meeting on Thursday with Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, who is visiting Indonesia in her capacity as the UN secretary-general's special advocate for inclusive finance for development.
The queen arrived at Merdeka Palace at 9 a.m. and was welcomed by Jokowi and First Lady Iriana. After a veranda talk, the President and Queen Maxima held a meeting until 10:13 a.m.
"We talked for one hour about financial inclusion. I asked her, because she is able to coordinate with the UN, the World Bank and other big foundations, to push the development of financial inclusion in Indonesia faster," Jokowi said after the meeting.
As part of her visit to the country, the Argentine-born queen is also scheduled to pay courtesy visits to several institutions, such as the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) and Bank Indonesia, as well as several ministers directly related to the implementation of inclusive financial systems.
Earlier, Queen Maxima attended the Indonesia Fintech Festival and Conference held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) venue in Tangerang on Tuesday.
During the event, she witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) on financial literacy and inclusion. (ags)
